Google Chrome has taken over for Firefox. It is simple, fast and overall a great browser with great features. On occasion it has the tendency to frustrate though.
If you’re like me, you want to have a certain set of tabs permanently pinned. So that certain sites are always open and ready for you to keep up to date with your RSS feeds, Google Plus, Facebook and others.
Chrome has no built in facility to permanently pin tabs. There is a work around though.
- Close Chrome and shift+ right click on the icon pinned to the task bar.
- Click on properties
- In target box you will see; ”C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe”
- At the end of the line, outside the quotes, add –pinned-tab-count=X (Where X is the number of permnently pinned tabs you’d like to have.
- Save and restart Chrome, pinning whatever tabs you like to have showing.
Next time you start Chrome, you’re pinned tabs will automatically open, pinned just like you left them.
Next up, the new padded menu system in Chrome. If you’re not using Chrome on a Tablet this spaced out menu designed for touch makes no sense. Here’s how to wrangle it back to normality.
- Close Chrome and shift+ right click on the icon pinned to the task bar.
- Click on properties
- In target box you will see; ”C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe”
- At the end of the line, outside the quotes, add –disable-new-menu-style
- Save and restart Chrome, you should now have a normally spaced menu system back in Chrome.
That’s it for now, more tips and tricks to tame Google Chrome as I find/discover them.
* It should be noted that this is a temporary fix and Google may or may not break this fix with any given update, requiring it to be re-implemented.
